Gays and lesbians who are having problems with drug addiction have the option of attending a drug rehabilitation program that is specifically designed for gays or lesbians. Deciding to enroll into one of these programs is a very good first step towards recovery. While in treatment recovering addicts not only deal with their issues with drugs and/or alcohol but also address other emotional and personal issues they are struggling with. Gays and Lesbians in recovery take a closer look at how their destructive behavior was a result of inner feelings left unresolved. Counseling and/or therapy aids in resolving issues with shame, Isolation, discomfort in one's own skin, feelings of rejection, etc. Once treatment is complete they will be able to feel stronger about who they are and be able to live happily without the desire to use drugs.
