Gays and lesbians who develop problems with drugs and alcohol have the option of going to a drug treatment program that is specifically intended for them. Choosing to enroll into one of these programs is an excellent first step towards recovery. During rehabilitation recovering addicts not only address their problems with drugs and/or alcohol but also address other emotional and personal problems they are struggling with. Gays and Lesbians in treatment take a closer look at how their destructive behavior was a result of inner feelings left unresolved. Counseling and/or therapy helps in resolving issues with shame, Isolation, feelings of rejection, discomfort in one's own skin, etc. Once treatment is complete they will be able to feel more secure about who they are and be able to live happily without the desire to use drugs.
