Gays and lesbians who develop problems with drugs and alcohol have the choice of attending a drug rehabilitation center that is specially intended for them. Deciding to attend one of these programs is a very good first step towards recovery. While in treatment recovering addicts not only deal with their issues with drugs and/or alcohol but also work on other emotional and personal issues they are struggling with. Gays and Lesbians in recovery take a closer look at how their destructive behavior was a result of inner feelings left unresolved. Counseling and/or therapy helps in resolving issues with isolation, shame, feelings of rejection, discomfort in one's own skin, etc. Once treatment is complete they will be able to feel stronger about who they are and be able to live happily without the desire to use drugs.
