Men and women who are physically reliant to drugs or alcohol and want help will initially go through detoxification before getting other treatment services in drug rehab. Detoxification is basically the procedure of the drug being removed from one's system, which is generally uncomfortable and may hold risks if not executed in a setting which can provide appropriate support and medical intervention as required. Detoxification services are provided at either a professional drug or alcohol detox facility or a drug rehabilitation facility which can appropriately oversee and present medical supervision for people who are just coming off of drugs. Detoxification services often include insuring the person is as comfortable as possible while detoxing and going through drug or alcohol withdrawal, offering proper nutrition and ensuring the individual is receiving proper rest, and providing supplements and medicine as necessary to make the detoxification process as smooth and safe as possible. The person in detox will sometimes be encouraged to take part in some sort of physical activity such as walking, yoga, etc. At a drug detoxification facility or drug treatment facility which can present detox services, the individual will have detoxification staff at their disposal around the clock to make sure that any problems are handled as swiftly and safely as possible.
