Washburn - Gays and Lesbians

Gays and lesbians who develop problems with drugs and alcohol have the option of attending a drug treatment center that is specially designed for gays or lesbians. Choosing to go to one of these programs is an excellent first step towards recovery. While in treatment recovering addicts not only address their issues with drugs and/or alcohol but also address other emotional and personal problems they are having difficulties with. Gays and Lesbians in recovery take a closer look at how their destructive behavior was a result of inner feelings left unresolved. Counseling and/or therapy helps in resolving issues with isolation, shame, discomfort in one's own skin, feelings of rejection, etc. Once treatment is complete they will be able to feel more secure about who they are and be able to live happily without the desire to use drugs.
