Gays and lesbians who develop problems with drug abuse have the choice of going to a drug treatment facility that is specifically designed for them. Choosing to enroll into one of these programs is an excellent first step towards recovery. While in treatment recovering addicts not only deal with their problems with drugs and/or alcohol but also address other emotional and personal problems they are having difficulties with. Gays and Lesbians in recovery examine how their destructive behavior was a result of inner feelings left unresolved. Counseling and/or therapy aids in resolving issues with shame, Isolation, discomfort in one's own skin, feelings of rejection, etc. Once treatment is complete they will be able to feel stronger about who they are and be able to live happily without the desire to use drugs.
