Facts

  • Because of the painful physical and mental consequences of cocaine withdrawal, relapsing back into cocaine abuse is very common because the user feels that using cocaine to avoid withdrawal will work.
  • Although the euphoric effects of cocaine on the user dissipate within minutes or hours of use, the "come down" or cocaine withdrawal can be felt for much longer.
  • Opiate addicted individuals who do not receive regular doses of opiates begin going through withdrawal, which is a very painful process.
  • After the beginning of alcohol withdrawal, symptoms get worse in 48-72 hours and may continue to plague the individual for weeks.

West Sacramento - Medicare

Drug addiction affects every age, race and gender. For substance abusers that are 65 years or older, Medicare is an option to pay for some if not all of their drug rehabilitation. Medicare insurance may cover the treatment of drug addiction or alcoholism in both outpatient and inpatient settings, as long as certain requirements are met. The addict must receive treatment from a Medicare-participating facility or provider. The drug addicted person's doctor notes that the drug or alcohol treatment is medically necessary and that the patient's doctor creates the plan of treatment to be carried out. Additionally, Medicare will only cover a total of 190 days in a mental health hospital for the individual's entire lifetime.
