Gays and lesbians who are having problems with drug abuse have the choice of attending a drug rehabilitation facility that is specifically intended for gays or lesbians. Deciding to attend one of these programs is a very good first step towards recovery. During rehabilitation recovering addicts not only deal with their issues with drugs and/or alcohol but also work on other emotional and personal issues they are having difficulties with. Gays and Lesbians in treatment take a closer look at how their destructive behavior was a result of inner feelings left unresolved. Counseling and/or therapy aids in resolving issues with shame, Isolation, feelings of rejection, discomfort in one's own skin, etc. Once treatment is complete they will be able to feel stronger about who they are and be able to live happily without the desire to use drugs.
