Gays and lesbians who are having problems with drug addiction have the choice of going to a drug treatment program that is specifically intended for them. Deciding to enroll into one of these programs is a very good first step towards recovery. While in treatment recovering addicts not only address their issues with drugs and/or alcohol but also work on other emotional and personal problems they are struggling with. Gays and Lesbians in recovery take a closer look at how their destructive behavior was a result of inner feelings left unresolved. Counseling and/or therapy helps in resolving issues with isolation, shame, discomfort in one's own skin, feelings of rejection, etc. Once rehabilitation is complete they will be able to feel stronger about who they are and know that drugs and alcohol is not the solution.
